Homemade Marinara Sauce
One thing I ALWAYS keep in my fridge: homemade marinara sauce. It's easy and tastes so much better than the store bought stuff! Plus, if you store it in an airtight container, it keeps in your fridge for a few weeks or in your freezer for 6 months! Use this simple yet flavorful tomato sauce on pasta, as a pizza sauce, in your favorite chicken parm recipe, or even on top of seared white fish.
Homemade Marinara Sauce
Makes ~ 24 oz
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 yellow onion, diced
- 2 big cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1/4 cup red wine (I used some Cabernet Sauvignon I had on hand)
- 1 - 28 oz can San Marzano tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (+ more to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (+ more to taste)
Directions
~ Always read through the ingredient list & full directions first. Do all of your cutting/chopping at the beginning -- it makes things much easier. For this recipe, that includes: onion, garlic, & basil. ~
- Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Sauté onion, garlic, and a pinch of salt & pepper until the onion becomes translucent and they become fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Add in the remaining ingredients and reduce heat to low. Cook for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Store in the fridge in an airtight container for a few weeks, or in the freezer for 6 months. Enjoy!
